Rubina’s Story

As a result of reaching out and accepting support, I finally found my voice.

For years, I was consumed by fear of the consequences of my community finding out about my drug use. I wouldn’t access mainstream services because I was scared they wouldn’t or couldn’t understand. Isolated and alone, I came across someone who wasn’t from my community, but I felt she was someone I could trust.

I Found My Purpose

For years, I was consumed by fear of the consequences of my community finding out about my drug use. I wouldn’t access mainstream services because I was scared they wouldn’t or couldn’t understand.

Isolated and alone, I came across someone who wasn’t from my community, but I felt she was someone I could trust. She encouraged me to start attending a parent and toddler group.

The groups filled my days, and I soon started to make friends, and my confidence grew.

I started to volunteer at a women’s group and realised I didn’t need drugs anymore because I had found my purpose.

I was passionate about helping others in the same place I once was, and I eventually became employed in drug services.

The best thing I ever did was take the advice of the lady who suggested I access that mother and toddler group.

As a result of reaching out and accepting support, I finally found my voice.
